11th century Olmutz Nasal Helmet with Leather Liner

Our Olmutz Nasal helmet is based directly on the 11th-century helmet found in Olmutz modern-day Czech Republic and numerous other similar finds from lake Orchowskie, Hradsko and Lake Lednice. This type of one-piece nasal helmet seems to have been especially common between the 9th and 13th centuries. For centuries nasal helmet has been THE most popular helmet in most parts of Europe because of its versatility and good balance between protection and mobility.



The Bayeux tapestry, depicting the Norman invasion of Saxon England, features this nasal helmet that was popular at the time. During the Battle of Hastings, William the Conqueror had to lift this specific helmet to prove he was alive after rumors of his death spread through his army! So just pair it with one of our chainmail coifs (sold separately) for your next LARP or reenactment costume! Perfect for a range of characters, from humble archers to mighty knights.



This helmet is HANDMADE from 12gauge mild steel (16G available on request), lined with a comfortable and secure genuine leather liner. A 68 cm inner circumference makes it perfect to fit all. Note: This product is carefully coated with a layer of oil when packaged that acts as a temporary (protective) layer against corrosion (rust), which can easily be wiped off using any oil remover or even a dry cloth.
